It’s a busy time at Cammell Lairds at Birkenhead now that the ferry maintenance period is here.

We’ve borrowed the Hamnavoe so that we have something different to photograph.

The Northtlink Ferries Orkney Ferry, MV Hamnavoe arrived in a squall [top - nothing new, here or there, then] at 12:55  – but it quickly turned – briefly -  into sunshine before reverting back to grey skies.

Hamnavoe is the second ferry to arrive in as many days. The Irish Ferries Ulysses arrived in much the same conditions [squall then sun].

Hamnavoe has docked down in No 6, with Ulysses next door in No 5. It now remains to see if Hamnavoe will emerge with the new Serco Northlink Ferries Logo – the one that got so many people hot under the collar.

While she’s here, back up north the private sector Pentland Ferries becomes the lifeline service to Orkney for a couple of weeks.

Shortly after she docked, the RFA Fort Rosalie departed the wet basin for a short journey across the Mersey to Liverpool’s Langton Dock. She has spent some 12 months in refit, during which Western Ferries’ new vessels, Sound of Seil and Sound of Soay came and went from the wetbasin, keeping her company in the meantime.
